Why Part L matters for your bifold
Part L of the Building Regulations sets the minimum U-value for new and replacement doors in England and Wales at 1.4 W/m²K. Our Versatali bifolds hit 1.2 W/m²K as standard — or 0.8 W/m²K with the triple-glazed option, which is Passivhaus-certified.
The rest of the high street? Bifolds that need glass upgrades to pass building control. Ours pass first time, every time. That’s thanks to a 34 mm polyamide thermal break, triple-gasket weather seals, and steel-reinforced corners that keep the frame square for a 25-year service life.

Everything you need to know before you pick a bifold
A bifold door is often the biggest single item of glass in your home. It shapes the way a room feels every day. So it’s worth a few minutes to understand the choices.
How a bifold door works
A set of slim door leaves that fold back on themselves. Each hangs from a top track and slides on hidden rollers. When you push the handle, the leaves concertina tight against the wall. Three leaves go to ~3.5 m, six leaves can reach 6 m+.
Aluminium or uPVC?
We only recommend aluminium. uPVC bifolds need much thicker frames to carry the weight — less light, less modern, and they sag after a few years. Aluminium is stronger by weight, won’t warp in heat or go brittle in cold, and won’t yellow in the sun.
How many leaves?
Three leaves suits 3–3.5 m. Four leaves for 3.5–5 m. Five and six leaves for large rear elevations on 5–6 m extensions. Pick an odd number if you want a “traffic leaf” you can use as a normal day-to-day door.
What is a flush threshold?
A very low aluminium track at the bottom — the floor on each side sits at the same height. Looks amazing and works brilliantly for level access. Both flush and weathered options pass Part M.
Thermal performance
U-value measures heat loss. Part L requires 1.4 W/m²K or better. Ours hit 1.2 W/m²K standard, 0.8 W/m²K on triple glazing — better than many composite front doors.
Security
PAS 24 tested. Shoot-bolts top and bottom on every leaf, hook bolts on the traffic leaf, anti-lift rollers, internal beading, TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder.
