Choosing an aluminium front door in 2026
Your front door is the most-touched item on your house. It’s the face of the building, the first line of defence against weather and burglars, and one of the biggest visual upgrades you can make.
Composite vs aluminium — why aluminium wins
Most high-street front doors are composite — foam-filled cores with a GRP skin. They look fine on day one but the skin warps, fades and distorts in full sun. Our aluminium front doors have a solid aluminium skin, high-density insulated core, and a thermal break. Stays square for decades.
How much does an aluminium front door cost?
A composite door runs £900–£1,600 fitted. A premium aluminium door like ours runs £1,800–£3,500 fitted depending on size, glass, panel design and extras. The life is double, security tested higher — think 20-year cost.
Security — what to look for
PAS 24 is the British break-in test. Every GWS aluminium front door is PAS 24 certified. Look for 3-star anti-snap cylinder, 6-point hook locking, internal glazing beads, anti-lift rollers — all standard on ours.
Should I get ekey fingerprint entry?
ekey is an Austrian biometric system built into the frame. Up to 99 fingerprints, works in rain, snow, with wet or dirty hands. If you’re sick of losing keys — ekey solves it.
Panel design choices
120+ designs: flush panels for contemporary, grooved for subtle texture, traditional with mouldings for period homes, Art Deco with horizontal ribs. Glass side lights and top lights in any configuration. Dual-colour at no surcharge.
Thermal performance and Part L
Part L requires 1.4 W/m²K or better. Our aluminium front doors come in at 1.2 W/m²K standard, 0.8 W/m²K with triple-glazed side light. Saves money on heating, keeps the hallway warmer. Building control signs off without question.
How long does it take?
Standard lead time from order is 4–6 weeks for manufacture. Install day is usually a single day. Priority fast-track production available for tight deadlines.
Aftercare
Maintenance-free. Wipe down with warm soapy water twice a year. Lubricate the lock strip once a year. No painting, no sanding, no re-staining. That is the beauty of aluminium.
